Dhoni scores £100,000 with his Cup final bat
Ranchi will soon have a hi-tech cricket academy and a sports school, both put on track by Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Foundation, Winning Ways.
The Foundation, which had its first major fundraising event at a hotel here on Monday night, is also going to be involved with charitable causes.
“While I launched the Foundation last year, I didn’t get the time to do anything big... Yesterday, the bat with which I got an unbeaten 91 in the World Cup final, fetched £100,000 at an auction... The gloves went under the hammer too. Overall, around £450,000 was raised and that money will be well spent,” Dhoni told The Telegraph.
He couldn’t identify the successful bidder — “I don’t have the details.”
Speaking at Lord’s, on Tuesday afternoon, Dhoni, the MoM in the final, added: “Had the bat not been auctioned, it would’ve been lying at home... Same for the gloves... Instead of just lying around, they got used for a good cause...”
